Today, we headed out after lunch to the Polynesian Cultural Center for a little bit of culture and an evening luau and show. This place was great….almost like an Epcot for the Polynesian islands. Each island (Samoa, Aotearoa, Fiji, Hawaii, Tahiti, and Tonga) has their own section with crafts for the kids, shows, authentic huts/homes, demonstrations, etc. You learn a little bit about the culture of each of the Polynesian islands….kids loved it and so did we!!
Of course, what would a cultural experience be without a tattoo???
The afternoon started off with a parade of the different islands….
Next up, we took a canoe tour of all the different islands and learned a little bit about each one…
First we stopped off in Tahiti for a little fishing…
Then off to Tonga for some spear throwing and a craft
The craft was a fish made out of a banana leaf on a string…
Next up, Aotearoa….we checked out how they live
Then we headed over to Samoa for a little demonstration on their culture (this guy was hilarious!!!)
He weaved a plate out of banana leaves and gave it to Kari!!
We HAD to get a picture with this guy….
By this time, it was time for our Luau…..we were so excited!
And of course, the pig (Kari was mortified and refused to eat any pork for the rest of the trip!!)
After dinner, we headed over to the Theater for the show: Ha Breath of Life
It was great! In fact the whole day was great!!! I would highly recommend this as the way to go when doing your Luau….it really is the best bang for your buck. It was so much more than just a Luau!!
Until next time…..
