We hosted Christmas Eve with my side of the family at our house this year. Steve’s parents joined us too….it was so fun to have everyone together!!
The day was crazy because of the weather….snow on Christmas Eve in Texas…you don’t see that too often!!
Here is the snow just beginning to fall….
Inside it was warm and cozy…
I love that our Christmas is full of tradition!
This wooden Christmas Tree was made by my grandfather….he made one for each of his daughters (my mom and aunt) and then for all the grandkids. With each tree came a card typed by my grandparents, this is what it says….
Many years ago when grandma and grandpa Tangen were young, grandma saw, and bought a small colorful Norwegian Christmas Tree and used it as a centerpiece, with burning red candles, during the holidays. That was the beginning of a tradition that spread love and cheer to everyone around the dining room table.
A pattern was taken of the original, and since that time, many duplicates have been made, and the custom continued.
It is our hope that you, dear grandson, and dear granddaughter, will continue this tradition and use this Christmas Tree in your future home with your loved ones gathered around you.
May it’s burning candles spread warmth and love to all.
Love,
Grandpa & Grandma
I can’t ever recall a Christmas Eve that we didn’t have the red candles of the Christmas Tree burning. So every year, I continue the tradition…and it really does spread warmth and love….and good memories.
Our other Christmas tradition comes from my dad’s side of the family. If you are German, you may know what it is.
These are called berocks (not sure of the spelling). They are like dough pockets filled with meat and spices. So yummy!! Every Christmas Eve, my dad and stepmom make a huge batch of these. For the last couple of years, we decided just to have these to eat on Christmas Eve…so now it is tradition.
I went on a cookie baking frenzy, so we had plenty of desserts!
I got a tripod for Christmas, so I set the timer on the camera to get a family picture….with everyone in it!!
More family pics…
Me, my dad, and my brother, John…
The Lance Family…
The Ensminger Family…
Now it was on to the gifts….
After presents, Kari wanted to head outside to check out the Winter Wonderland….
Until next time….
