So your coasting along in life….things are good! Your step-daughter is about to graduate high school, you just made the last child support payment (forever!!), and you just paid off your car. Wow…feels good! Things are going along so smoothly and then….
…you get the phone call that takes 10 years off your life. Ashley has been in a car accident….she is okay, but can you come??? Of course, I shot out of the house (with baby Grant in tow) and went to take care of her. She was okay, just extremely upset and shaken up.
The car….well the car is another story…..
But cars can be replaced and sweet 18 year olds can’t. I can’t tell you how many times I thanked God on Friday….thanking Him that she was okay and for looking out for her.
I didn’t realize just how upset I was about it until I woke up in the middle of the night on Friday night thinking about what could have happened….what if. Thank God we don’t have to find out what if.
I also realized something else that day. This may sound weird, but I always say that I love Ashley just as if she was my own. I know it in my heart. Some question me on it….do you really love Ashley the same way you love Kari?? I can tell you this….when I got that phone call my heart just dropped. I may not have given birth to her, but my love for her is true. What I felt on Friday was nothing short of a Mother’s worry and anguish at seeing her child scared and upset. So for the people out there that say a step-mom can’t love her step-children the same way she loves her own children I have two words for you….you’re wrong.
Until next time….

Praise the Good Lord she's o.k!!!! God is good! Nobody should ever question the love of a mama...whether they gave birth to them or not :)
