Belize-Part 1, Friday

I know, I know....it has taken me forever to post about Belize!! I have been so busy since I got back....I haven't had 2 seconds. Not to mention I am exhausted and did I mention I am exhausted????

Here goes with Friday....
Our flight left out of Dallas around 1pm. I was excited to see all my girls, but nervous about the trip. How many patients will we have??? Did we pack enough supplies??? Uh-oh...what if I forgot to pack something major....

Anyway, 3 hours later we landed in Belize City. We were picked up by the Rotarians (the Orangewalk Rotary Club sponsors us...so the Rotarians are our AWESOME hosts!) We loaded into a shuttle bus for the hour ride to the hospital....
Once we got to the hospital, we hit the ground running....tons of patients waiting to be seen....
Of course, my BFFs Cindy and Jana and I managed to get some pics before the fun would start....
I heart these girls....
Ummm...just a side note....don't mind ALL the breastfeeding pictures in the background. On every wall and door in the hospital there was something about breastfeeding and I mean pictures and all. It was kind of disturbing to see things like this....
And of course, I couldn't resist this picture....the sign on the door where our eye prosthesis guy was doing all of his great work....

Okay, enough about that....I just needed to explain why you might see a random breastfeeding picture in the background of almost ALL my pictures!!! :)

On with the show....we spent all of Friday evening evaluating patients and scheduling them for surgery. Jana helped with exams and Cindy and I did the surgery scheduling. Here is Cindy ready to get started....

Bottom line....it is the following beautiful faces that is the entire reason for the trip. We do all that we do for these sweet kiddos....

Beautiful, aren't they??? They will melt your heart and bring tears to your eyes.....

We evaluated and scheduled for many hours and at the end of it all , we knew we had a very busy 2 days coming up!!

So you would think any good nurse would head back to the hotel for a good, long night's sleep to prepare for the busy weekend ahead....not these nurses....

Yikes!!!

It is hard to put into words what this trip is about and what it does to you. For me, it is about hitting my reset button.....reminding me how blessed I am, that love is the strongest bond, kindness goes a long way, and laughter really is the best medicine!!!

Stay tuned for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday....

Until next time....
